ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the concordance in the diagnosis of early and intermediate AMD using ultra-widefield fundus autofluorescence images obtained with the Mirante® system compared to those obtained with the Clarus 700® system. Methodology: An observational, descriptive, prospective, cross-sectional study of the concordance type was conducted. Eyes of patients with the presence of drusen and with or without an established diagnosis of AMD were included. Ultra-widefield fundus images were taken with the Mirante® and Clarus 700® systems for the measurement and subsequent classification of drusen length using the AREDS system. Results: 184 eyes were included; according to the AREDS classification, AREDS category 2 was present in 145 eyes (78.8%), followed by AREDS category 3 in 31 eyes (16.8%), and finally AREDS category 1 in 8 eyes (4.3%). Both devices are concordant in the AREDS classification of AMD, a Cohen Kappa coefficient of 1.000 was obtained, which corresponds to a perfect and highly significant concordance. Conclusions: There are no differences regarding the use of the Mirante® and Clarus 700® ultra-widefield fundus cameras for the classification and staging of early and intermediate AMD. Both imaging systems were generally concordant in the evaluation of drusen length.
