ABSTRACT
Premature birth continues to be a common problem in hospitals because of the increased risk of morbidity and mortality due to the immaturity of organs and systems. These children are exposed to environmental aggravations that can affect their growth and development. The microbiota participates both directly and indirectly in the maturation and protection of the central nervous system. The more adverse factors that are present in the first 1000 days of life, the more the establishment and maturation of the health microbiota (eubiosis) may be compromised. When an alteration (dysbiosis) occurs, a significant correlation with various neurological disorders has been observed. This review focuses on the factors that precipitate these alterations, the mechanisms that could be explain an increased neurological risk, and the main associated pathologies in infancy, to offer preventive action and opportune treatment.
